Speech (written mid-summer 2010)

Let me ask a very important question. Do you swell with pride at your country? Do you feel joy when you hear the National Anthem? Does a tear come to your eye when you see the youth of our nation recite the pledge of allegiance? If so, I'm sorry to say, you're dreaming. The leaders of our country aren't doing anything to help us, so we must take matters into our own hands. Most of the world is blind to the truth or refuses to believe it. Right now, our country, our nation, is taking a heavy blow from the oil spill. I'm sure you all have heard of it. Numerous steps have been taken to "protect the wildlife" and "stop the oil spill". The steps taken are really just BP trying to save their own asses. What they do now is horrid. One plan from BP to get rid of the oil in the water is to burn it. Control burns, but burning it nonetheless. The main problem with this, is that much marine life and some other wildlife live in this now oil filled habitat. BP, setting fire to these masses of oil are also setting fire to the turtles and fish who happen to be within them. BP is harming and destroying about 5 endangered species of sea turtles. Kemp's Ridley turtle is the one being most affected here, with its population dwindling by the hour.

You may want to ask me "What if we get the turtles out before they burn the oil?" Well, there is a team who wanted to do just that, but BP has blocked off all access and shut out those who are trying to help.

In other words, BP doesn't give a damn who or what they destroy. If you try to say they do, then why don't they take the help that's being offered to save an endangered species? All they have to do is move their boats and sit back for a little while. It's cynical, what BP is doing.. The leader of our country is doing nothing to stop this. No one is taking action, to what is a devastating event.

This is the nation we live in now. If you still have a sense of patriotic pride, then I pity you. To stand behind all that's been done is insane.
